Responsible for the operative management of DNW at Emmeloord (Marknesse) in the Netherlands

What to expect:
German-Dutch Wind Tunnels (DNW), a foundation under Dutch law, operates the wind tunnels of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR) at four locations. In these cutting-edge facilities, highly qualified aerodynamic and aeroacoustic simulations and measurements are carried out for international customers within research and development projects. The projects can originate from industry or the research community (universities, research institutes or research consortia) and mainly serve developments in aviation. Together with your Dutch co-director, you will be responsible for the operational management of DNW at Emmeloord (Marknesse) in the Netherlands. In addition, you will be responsible for the operation of the business unit at Braunschweig and Göttingen. You will ensure a healthy growth of DNW's performance and its technical facilities as a unique organisation. You will provide guidance to managers and experts, enable overall good personnel management and see to good operating results. You proactively contribute to the definition and realisation of DNW's strategy, to the further development of its technical facilities and to related objectives and you keep an eye on DLR's interests during this development and implementation. As a convincing and at the same time entrepreneurial personality, you combine recognised and future wishes of customers and stakeholders with internal capabilities, offer result-oriented solutions and further develop DNW's market perspectives. With your enthusiasm, you convince and retain your team members, promote their talents and lead the foundation to joint success.

What we expect from you:
  • You have a scientific university degree (Master / Diploma Uni), e.g. in aerospace engineering or another degree programme relevant to the position.
  • You are experienced in the management of experimental research facilities and their successful positioning in a European context.
  • You have long-term experience in a relevant management position (functional, disciplinary and budgetary responsibility).
  • You are an entrepreneurial and proactive personality who is strong in implementation, recognises future developments, drives innovations and strives for (commercial) results.
  • You strive for broad collaboration and you connect people and their organisations.
  • You have shown that you can inspire and develop your team members.
  • You are fluent in English and German, preferably also have language skills in Dutch and are highly willing to travel on business.
  • Your several years' experience in order acquisition and strategy development is proven by practical results.
  • You have comprehensive management knowledge and good knowledge of business administration, including experience in budget control.
  • You have a sound knowledge of the aviation industry.
  • You can demonstrate relevant knowledge, experience and success in (agile) project management.
  • You are experienced in working in national and international expert committees and with stakeholders.
  • You are willing to relocate close to the DNW headquarters in Marknesse, the Netherlands, e.g. on the basis of an international secondment.
  • Security clearance as well as the willingness to security clearance pursuant to §§ 8 ff. Security Clearance Act (SÜG) is a condition for employment at DLR.
  • Ideally you are familiar with research operations at DLR.
